The newer versions of Mozilla Firefox (currently 7.0.1) seem to be deteriorating (under Windows 7). It becomes unresponsive more and more often, even with relatively few tabs. And it seems that other people complain as well, and that Firefox is gradually getting more broken.

So I've tried Chrome again (I did not like it when I tried it quite a while ago), and it seems to be much better and faster now. It also has equivalents of the two add-ons I like and depend on: TooManyTabs (the same name and maker as for Firefox, although the interface is quite different), and ToCyrillic (instead of RussKey for Firefox).

So it looks like I am migrating. It seems that many others are migrating to Chrome as well, mostly from Explorer, but also from Firefox:

The main thesis is that JavaScript is essentially a language in the spirit of Scheme and also Self, a language where inheritance is not class-based, but prototype-based:

Crockford teaches how to avoid the bad parts of JavaScript, and how to write nice functional JavaScript, with closures and everything.

"screen" is a totally awesome Unix terminal multiplexer. For example, it allows you to get into the same console session from two different places (great, if you want to go home, but continue to edit or monitor the same window).

However, most texts explaining how it works are completely unreadable. Here is a nice introduction and beginner's tutorial:

I'd like to see a set of software tools which would allow me to use the Web more efficiently. In particular, when I browse Web, sometimes I end up feeling that I have spent time well and learned interesting new things. On other occasions, I feel that I've read a lot of boring things and got myself tired without anything to show for that.

It would be nice to have tools which would take a user's feedback on the quality of Web pages, and would help the user to predict the quality of new pages. We were working on such a set of tools for the last few months, and I think we reached the stage when this toolset can be useful to other people.

So, this is, in some sense, a micro-launch of the alpha release of this toolset called WebPredict. One can use the following URL to create an account which allows to give feedback on the quality of Web pages one reads, and to get predictions of the quality of new pages based on that feedback:

http://www.webpredict.net/wp/PreSignup.do?userConfigId=original-flavor

For the time being, this only makes sense if one is using a Firefox browser, and one needs to install our Link Rater Firefox add-on for the resulting workflow to make sense. other functionality; feedback )

I've learned about a new organization (functioning since Summer 2006), which is doing various strange things, for example, "modifications to existing medical imaging programs that enable their use in astronomical research". they are hiring too )

Other than that, I am torturing myself trying to understand why for (pre)sheaves on a topology, it is not enough to take the topology itself as the set of logical values, but one needs to consider "sieves" aka "crib(b)les" (решета) over this topology to obtain the "classifier of subobjects"..
